The Birdcage becomes an official drop off point for Hackney Foodbank

The Birdcage in Stoke Newington has become an official partner of the Hackney Foodbank acting as a much-needed drop off point for non-perishable food items as we approach the busy festive period. Food donations have dropped by over 53% since 2021 and we are seeing an increase in demand for our services so support is appreciated more than ever.

The Birdcage will play an important role in achieving the Hackney Foodbank’s vision of a hunger-free community helping people in Hackney and the surrounding boroughs who are in crisis or trapped in poverty. This partnership firstly began over Halloween when The Birdcage took part in the Local Buyers Club’s annual Trick or Eat initiative to collect as many donations as possible whilst people were trick or treating in the local community.

With such positive feedback and donations from The Birdcage customers and the local community, The Birdcage is set to continue offering its support on a longer-term basis. The Birdcage offers a wide range of food and drink from a tasty range of cocktails and shots, to delicious sourdough pizzas and sides. With over 100 gins to choose from and plenty of craft beers including local beers and guest ales – it is the perfect place to relax and unwind. On top of that, the pub screen has some unmissable live sporting events including the current FIFA World Cup matches and live music events from up and coming artists and DJs.

Audrey Boum-Enock, General Manager at The Birdcage said: “We are delighted to have partnered with Hackney Foodbank to support its vital work in the Hackney borough. After taking part in the Trick or Eat initiative at Halloween, we knew straight away that we wanted to do more with the organisation so are very proud to be able to make The Birdcage a permanent drop off point for non-perishable food donations. This Christmas is going to be a tricky one for lots of people and we ask our customers to donate where they can!”

Sara Battey, Head of Communications and Fundraising at Hackney Foodbank added: “We’re thrilled to have the support of The Birdcage, who are kindly setting up a permanent collection point to help us collect our most needed items. We couldn’t provide our services to local people in Hackney if it weren’t for businesses like The Birdcage to help us get donations for our emergency parcels. We are very grateful for any non-perishable and in-date donations that people can give.”

Donations can be dropped at The Birdcage, 58 Stamford Hill, London, N16 6XS between 11am-11pm Monday-Friday; 11am-12am Saturday; or 12pm-11pm Sunday.
