WHAT’S ON: NEIL MARTINSON GIVES FREE TALK ON PHOTO EXHIBITION IN SUPPORT OF HACKNEY FOODBANK
Neil Martinson will be giving a free talk Sunday 13th November, 10.30am about his widely acclaimed photography of Hackney in the 70s and 80s.
These unique photographs document Hackney borough’s people and places over the last 50 years and were recently celebrated in a book from award-winning publisher Hoxton Mini Press.
The talk will also feature an exclusive preview of his latest work, documenting Hackney’s contemporary people and places, to sit alongside his archival images.
In the 1970s and 1980s Hackney was a vivid mix of bombed-out houses, kids playing in the streets and factories abuzz with workers. Despite the crumbling Council estates, high unemployment and widespread poverty there was vitality and resilience among local people. These images capture those times of work, protest and play on Hackney’s streets. His new work provides another stunning insight into life in Hackney.
The final sale of the prints will support Hackney Foodbank.
