Hackney Foodbank launches Christmas Voucher Campaign
Hackney Foodbank is urging the public to donate vouchers for teenagers in poverty this Christmas.
They’ll be given out to older children who visit the food bank with their families – enabling them to choose the gift they really want. The food bank is appealing for vouchers of between £10 and £15 for One4All.
Shell Tran, of Hackney Foodbank, said: “It’s hard to choose a gift for a teenager – let’s face it; what they really want is to choose something special for themselves. Each year when we’re giving gifts to children in poverty, our hearts go out to the teenagers who can sometimes miss out, so this year we’re urging the public to donate vouchers.”
The food bank is among the beneficiaries of the Winter Toy Appeal, an initiative run by the Local Buyers Club and Location Location estate agency which provides new gifts for 5,000 children in London each year. They’re supporting the Voucher Appeal and have donated 100 One4All vouchers to kickstart the campaign.
The Winter Toy Appeal has also donated toys to Hackney Foodbank for younger children.
Shell added: “Christmas is such a hard time for people in poverty – it’s cold and they can’t afford to heat their homes; many can’t afford the cost of heating food so we’re having to give out no-heat food parcels. Everywhere you look people are celebrating, yet for the families we support there’s no money left for treats.
“We’re urging the public to show some compassion for our teenagers this winter by donating to our voucher campaign.”
Please order One4All vouchers here of either £10 or £15 in value to be delivered to Tanya Whitfield, Hackney Foodbank, Florence Bennett Centre, Cherbury Street, London N1 6TL.
