Councils have a duty to help people experiencing homelessness. If you are homeless, sleeping rough or facing a housing crisis, your first priority should be to contact your local authority’s Housing Options team to find out what help they can offer.

ALBERT KENNEDY TRUST
Supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. Their website also gives general advice and other sources of help.

No appointments are at the Mare Street address. You need to go to the Hackney Service Centre, 1 Hillman Street E8 1DY on Wednesdays and Fridays, 09.30-12.30. Demand is high so arrive early. There is plenty on information online:

Free health care, housing and welfare support for people living in hostels or supported accommodation, rough sleepers and people who are homeless. Help with health assessments, GP registration, housing advice, welfare and benefits support and specialist legal advice.
Drop in for an appointment on a first come, first served basis (arrive early).

HOMELESS ENGLAND
Comprehensive database of homelessness service in England. Search by location, service type (eg accommodation, day centres etc), support offered (eg for those sleeping rough, drug dependency, people with dogs, young people etc), and service provided (eg advice, hostel, health care, night shelter etc.).

NO FIXED ADDRESS BANK ACCOUNT
HSBC and some other banks offer these accounts. You must be experiencing housing or homelessness difficulties and receiving support from Shelter or another HSBC partner charity. Participating HSBC branches at King’s Cross, Bishopsgate, Finsbury Park, Holborn and Stratford.

NORTH LONDON ACTION FOR THE HOMELESS
St Paul’s Church Hall, 184 Stoke Newington Road N16 7UE
Offers free substantial vegetarian meals as well as clothes, showers, laundry (both available from 10.00 on Mondays and 16.00 on Wednesdays) and haircuts. Advocacy support available at meal times.

ENGAGE HACKNEY/RIVERSIDE
Supports people aged 18 years or older, living in Hackney (in all types of accommodation) or who are placed outside Hackney in temporary accommodation to retain their tenancy.
Also offer a volunteering and befriending service to empower people to gain skills and reduce isolation. Agencies can make referrals, or you can self-refer.

PETER BEDFORD HOUSING ASSOCIATION
Supported housing for single people aged 18-65 who are homeless or living in inappropriate or insecure accommodation. If you already access support from an agency such as an advice centre or substance misuse agency, ask them to make a referral for you or if you have a local connection to Hackney ask Hackney Service Centre.
